We are starting to wrap things up in Social Studies as well. ‘Remember the Titans” was awesome. What a powerful film. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did! Wednesday we are watching another film on the Civil Rights Movement, only this one is a documentary. There will be a guided companion-worksheet to help us get the important facts and themes from the film. Your “final Exam” will count as one test grade and will cover the Civil Rights Movement. Below is a link to the study guide. The Social Studies exam day is Tuesday 5/21.

As we wind down the year, we are completing a few “extra” labs we didn’t get to over the course of the year. Daily grades will be taken and entered as one weekly grade for each of the last two weeks.
THe science exam will be on Monday May 19, 2008. Following is the study guide. We will fill out the study guide together in class this week. Bring any questions to class.

Research Presentations will be Monday through Thursday this week. I can not wait to hear all that we found out about our scientists and inventors!
This week we will continue our discussion of “Modern Georgia”. We are going to focus specifically on the Civil Rights movement and the desegregation or integration of Georgia schools in the 1960-70’s. Don’t forget your permission forms for the movie “Remember the Titans”. We will use this film to enhance our discussion of this time period.
As we round out the year of Exploring Physical Science, we focus on the many scientists and inventors that have shaped our world. Students will research one scientist or inventor and present to class thier findings. Below is the link to the detailed instructions, timeline and rubric. All written summarries are due by Thursday May 1. Presentations will be Monday May 5 - Wenesday May 7.

This should be a great way to end our eighth grade year. There should be an event for everyone. Here are a few we heard about already…
- Track and field…Runners start now; practice and record times. We will compete in the 50 & 100 yd dashes, as well as a 1/2 and 1mile run. Bring in accurate times so we can send strongest runners to compete. Long jumpers - start practicing!
- Basketball - we are looking for the most accurate free-throw shooters on the red team. Practice those shots every day!
- Softball and football toss. It’s all about distance! Practice at home and record your results.
We can send several team members to each event! There will be more to come as we hear… Get a good night’s rest every night (8hrs min.). Eat healthy and drink plenty of fluids! It’s only a month guys and gals, but we are training to win!
